The highly-awaited Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been rampant.
Season 1 introduces a diverse group of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with songs about their clashes, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator commented earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply fans have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating happens this season.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible reveals, some fascinating backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people create a prediction grid about the new season," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
